Paris, cold spring of the second year of the Republic (1794). From September, 1793, the country lives according to the laws of revolutionary terror. Danton, the most popular leader of the Revolution, returned to the capital hoping to put an end to the repression; at the entrance to the city where he meets a darkly gleaming in the moonlight guillotine.
