The Netherlands, in 1934. The streets of Amsterdam wanders expelled from lessons 11-year-old Pauses - restless child, childhood which takes place in a complex pre-war time in a single-parent family, where the parents of the boy have not already live together. The father Pauses - trading sailor, who is almost never home and not engaged in education only son – though sharp and razdrazhennogo, but good-hearted boy. Pauses constantly plagued with trouble both in school and on the street. Gradually minor annoyances turn into a real disaster and only a few adults whom the fate of the boys care about trying to help come on, buddy, get out of a difficult situation...
